Why I Built MySolarROI (And Why It’s Different)

My Story

I started in the solar industry in 2015. For five years, I worked with installers, attended industry conferences, studied energy policy. I learned a lot about solar, how it works, what it costs, and why it matters.

But I also learned something frustrating: Most homeowners hated the solar buying process.

Why? Because every tool was designed to capture leads, not educate customers. A homeowner would use a calculator, get bombarded with sales calls within hours. Installers would show up with inflated quotes. The whole process felt predatory.

I kept thinking: There has to be a better way.

The Problem

Here’s what broke my heart. I’d sit with homeowners who WANTED solar. They believed in the tech. They understood the financial case. But they were terrified of:

  • Getting ripped off
  • Making the wrong choice
  • Dealing with pushy salesmen
  • Being locked into a bad contract

Meanwhile, I’d watch solar companies spend millions getting leads, knowing that 80% of interested homeowners would never buy because the experience was so bad.

In 2023, something clicked: What if we built a calculator that was designed to HELP people, not trick them into being called?

The Solution

I spent 18 months building MySolarROI with three simple principles:

1. No BS
Educational information. Real numbers. Honest limitations. We tell you what we don’t know as clearly as what we do.

2. No Contact Required
Get your analysis without ever giving a phone number. No one calls you. No one emails you trying to sell. That’s our promise.

3. Empower, Don’t Pressure
Our goal is to give you the info you need to decide. On YOUR timeline. Whether that’s today or in a year.

The result: A calculator that feels like a trusted advisor, not a sales funnel.

Why This Matters

Solar energy is becoming affordable and accessible. But only if you understand the options. My mission is to be the trusted advisor you’d want—the one who explains things clearly, answers your questions honestly, and helps you make decisions you’re confident in.

When homeowners have good information, they make good decisions. And when more people go solar, we all win: lower energy costs, cleaner energy, less carbon, more jobs in sustainable industries.

It sounds simple. But it’s radical in an industry built on urgency and confusion.

What I Believe

  • • Solar is good. Not because it’s trendy. Because it gives homeowners control over their energy costs.
  • • Transparency > Pressure. Always.
  • • People are smarter than they think. Give them data, they’ll make great decisions.
  • • The solar industry will grow fastest when it stops trying to trick people and starts trying to help them.

These aren’t just nice words. They’re how I built MySolarROI and how I run it every day.

What I’ve Learned

Working with homeowners and installers taught me:

  • Solar economics vary DRAMATICALLY by location (state tax credits matter more than federal ones now)
  • Most homeowners can go solar (even with shade, old roofs, limited space)
  • Financing options matter MORE than system cost
  • Education reduces buyer’s remorse by 80%
  • The federal 30% tax credit expiring (12/31/25) changed the entire game—state incentives are now critical
  • People don’t want to be sold. They want to be understood.

These insights shaped everything about MySolarROI.

What’s Next

We’re expanding MySolarROI to include:

  • Battery storage analysis (coming 2026)
  • EV charging integration (coming 2026)
  • Community solar education (coming late 2026)
  • State-by-state incentive tracking (live now, always updated)

Our goal: Be the #1 trusted resource for homeowner solar decisions. Not the biggest. Not the flashiest. The most helpful.

Final Thought

If you’re here because you’re curious about solar, I’m grateful. If you try our calculator, I hope it helps. If you decide solar isn’t right for you, I hope we still helped you make that decision confidently.

That’s the whole point.

Let’s build a smarter, cleaner energy future. Together.

Background & Experience

I’ve spent 10+ years in the renewable energy industry:

  • 5 years working directly with solar installers and homeowners
  • Deep knowledge of solar economics, financing, and incentives
  • Studied energy policy at state and federal levels
  • Attended countless solar industry conferences
  • Built relationships with installers, contractors, and industry experts
  • Understand the complete customer journey from awareness to installation

Most importantly, I’ve listened to hundreds of homeowners explain what they actually need (not what salesmen think they need).
